Financial Times Confirms Apple Tablet Features, September Launch - Wow this is hot

According to the Financial Times, Apple is racing to launch the fabled Apple tablet in September, along with new iPods. They claim Apple is working with record labels and book publishers on new iTunes features created for the new device:

The talks come as Apple is separately racing to offer a portable, full-featured, tablet-sized computer in time for the Christmas shopping season, in what the entertainment industry hopes will be a new revolution. The device could be launched alongside the new content deals, including those aimed at stimulating sales of CD-length music, according to people briefed on the project.

Apple is working with EMI, SonyMusic, Warner Music and Universal Music Group, on a project the company has codenamed "Cocktail", according to four people familiar with the situation.

The Financial Times' sources point out that the device will have a 10-inch touchscreen and run iPhone OS. The tablet will be able to connect to the Internet using Wi-Fi like the iPod touch, and—according to publishers—it will also have a book marketplace. Yes, that's Jeff Bezos' worse nightmare.

ok, i know i'm an apple fanboy and I'll basically love anything Steve Jobs puts out. But this would be totally sweet. I've never been a fan of the kindle, seems too limited in what it does for the price.

But a full tablet that does ebooks and much more, now that's interesting. If this thing has 3G built in, i'm sold.

This is why I work so hard on Posterous

We work so hard everyday to make Posterous great. And that includes answering *a ton* of support email. Every once in a while, I'll talk to someone who really understands what we're trying to do, and it just makes my day.

I want to take this opportunity to let you know how Posterous has changed my attitude toward blogging. Even after tumblr, I didn't feel like there was an easy way to blog. It was a process that involved remembering my login to WordPress or Blogspot or whoever, gathering research and writing. Now, I can do it from my email! That still blows my mind! Please keep it up. Sometimes the best innovations are the simplest. When I tell people about Posterous, it sounds so obviously simple yet you all are the first to think of it.

Thanks.

Brie

Thanks, Brie! We really do want to change people's attitude towards blogging. In fact, we should probably stop using the term. When did the term "blog" start scaring people away?

And now, back to coding!

The Power of Opaque Selling - Why Priceline can offer prices so much lower than any other sites that publicly list prices

Priceline, Hotwire and vacation packages from offline and online travel agencies can offer prices that are dramatically lower than published rates without cannibalizing revenue because they are opaque selling channels. Opaque selling makes some part of a purchase non-transparent to the consumer (such as which hotel, what time the flight will leave, what products you are buying) so that the probability of revenue cannibalization is dramatically reduced. While opaque selling creates incremental revenue for airlines, hotels and car rental companies, can it work in other industries?

I've always stayed away from sites like Priceline because I don't like the idea that I don't know what i'm buying. But this makes so much sense! Priceline really can undercut sites like Hotels.com *because* it's opaque.

Offering a lower price for a hotel room on Priceline.com doesn't cannibalize sales of that hotel room on other sites. Fascinating!

Cramer's Mad Money - Dell and Nokia Are Just Whining (7/16/09) -- Seeking Alpha

Listening to Dell and Nokia on their terrible earnings reports, one would think that the entire tech sector is falling apart. Cramer pointed out a common tactic used by companies in trouble; blame the macro situation. However, Nokia and Dell have only themselves to blame for their poor performances, said Cramer. If demand is so bad, why are Apple's products flying off the shelves, and why did Intel report such a strong quarter? The bottom line: no one wants their products, so Cramer would ignore the dismal portrait painted by Dell and Nokia and sell the stocks.

Dell and Nokia, stop whining and start building good products!
